Asbestos

Asbestos Is a naturally occurring material that is mined from the earth since before the birth of Christ. It was known as the magic mineral that turned into a killer dust. The majority of its use was in building products from the end of the second world war up until about 1980 when the dangers with this wonder product were coming to light. Asbestos was also used in such common things as, crayons, filter tips on cigarettes, Beer filters and ironing board covers.

Some types of asbestos were banned in 1985 and all asbestos use and importation in the UK were banned in 1999. In the UK we estimate that about 5,500 people die from an asbestos related disease per year, this is due to exposure sometimes over 40 years ago.

The very mention of this materials name is a great concern for many people. There are about 3,500 products that contain asbestos and the majority of the work with this material has to be undertaken by a specialist contractor and can be expensive.

Andy has worked as a consultant with the asbestos industry for over 25 years, working with the asbestos contractors, principal contractors and clients to advise on the technical and practical aspects of the material.

The current legislation with asbestos requires it to be managed, Andy is well placed to assist clients to meet their statutory duties as well as ensuring they get value for money with the remedial necessary work.
